For riding inside the Kathmandu Valley or day trips to Nagarkot and Dhulikhel: The Xpulse 200 or Classic 350 is enough. Kathmandu traffic rewards a light, narrow bike more than horsepower.
For Kathmandu to Pokhara and the Prithvi Highway: The Classic 350 is comfortable for six to eight hours in the saddle and handles a passenger well.
For Lower Mustang, Muktinath or Manang: Rent a Himalayan 410 or 450. The Beni–Jomsom road and the Besisahar–Manang road have long stretches of loose gravel, river crossings and broken surfaces. Long-travel suspension and a 21-inch front wheel make a real difference there.
For experienced off-road riders: The CRF 250L is the lightest bike in the fleet and the easiest to pick up when you drop it on a rocky switchback. It's less comfortable for long highway days.
Not included: fuel, conservation area permits, accommodation, and damage beyond normal wear.
How to Rent a Motorbike in Nepal: Step by Step
Pick from the fleet above. Send us your dates, the route you plan to ride, and your riding experience on WhatsApp (+977-9712082465) or through the inquiry form. If the route doesn't suit the bike, we'll tell you.
We need a copy of your passport, your driving licence, and your International Driving Permit (IDP) if you're a foreign national.
A refundable security deposit is required before the bike is handed over. [Confirm amount and form, e.g. "USD 300 cash or passport copy + card hold," and when it's refunded.]
We deliver the bike to your hotel in Kathmandu Valley, or you collect it from Bhaktapur, Pokhara or Butwal. We walk you through the bike, check the controls with you, and photograph its condition together so there are no disputes in return.
Return the bike at the agreed time and location with the same fuel level. The deposit is refunded after inspection.
Foreign riders should carry their home country motorcycle licence plus an International Driving Permit endorsed for motorcycles. Traffic police run checkpoints on the Prithvi Highway, at the Kathmandu Valley entry points and on routes into the mountains, and they do ask for documents. The licensing authority is Nepal's Department of Transport Management.
Nepali and Indian riders need a valid licence that includes the motorcycle category.

If Lo Manthang is your goal, look at our Upper Mustang Motorcycle tour instead.
Annapurna Conservation Area (Lower Mustang, Muktinath, Manang): Foreign riders need an ACAP entry permit. Get it in Kathmandu at the Nepal Tourism Board office in Bhrikutimandap, or in Pokhara, before you set off. Checkposts on the way will turn you back without one.

If you've ridden in South Asia before and want to explore at your own pace, rent. If this is your first ride in the Himalaya, or your route goes above 3,500 m, a guided motorcycle tour removes most of what goes wrong.
October to November and March to May give dry roads and clear mountain views. From June to September, monsoon rain brings landslides on the Mustang, Manang and Prithvi Highway routes, and roads can close for days. December to February is cold but rideable at lower elevations; high passes may be snowed in. Check forecasts with the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology before mountain rides.
Expect a road surface that changes every few kilometres. Tarmac turns to gravel without warning. Buses and trucks take the centre of the road on hill sections, so ride defensively on blind corners and use your horn. Daily distances that look short on a map take longer than you think: 100 km in the hills can take a full day.
Fuel stations are common on highways and thin out in the mountains. Fill up at every opportunity once you're past Beni or Besisahar.
Muktinath sits at about 3,800 m. Bikes lose power at altitude, and so do riders. Build in an acclimatisation day if you're going high.
